Wellness and Preventative Care
Every pet is special and unique, and at Warwick Run, we adapt our canine and feline wellness care to match the needs and lifestyle of you and your pet.
Wellness care begins with preventative care. Preventative care is the basis of good health and we encourage you to participate in your pet’s wellness planning. There are many things you can do to improve the health of your pet. Our doctors will consult with you in the following areas:
- Dental health
- Exercise and nutrition
- Parasite prevention and routine blood screening
- Vaccination
- Spay/Neuter
- Behavioral concerns
We encourage you to bring your pets in on an empty stomach so that we may entice them with treats! Here at Warwick Run Animal Clinic we make all possible efforts so that you and your pet have a positive experience!
Exercise and nutrition
The simplest way to keep your pet happy and healthy is with proper exercise and nutrition. Deciding on the best diet for your pet can be a difficult challenge with the vastness of options and opinions in the market today. Our veterinarians are well educations on pet nutrition and are always happy to offer guidance on where to start your search. To start you off we recommend looking at the premium diets of these three companies: Royal Canin, Purina and Hill’s. These companies have veterinary diet lines and staff veterinarians and nutritionists who work together to create healthy and wholesome diets for your pets.
On top of diet, exercise is a large component in your pet’s health. Veterinary behaviorists recommend daily walks and mental exercises to keep your pet happy and engaged! Romping in the yard is fun but walks and training provide a bonding experience for you and your pet as well as cultivating a well-mannered pet! For our feline friends, did you know that just five minutes of engaged playtime per day can be crucial in weight loss? Cats can learn tricks too! Ask your veterinarian about enrichment for your cats!
Parasite Prevention and Routine Blood Screening
At Warwick Run Animal Clinic we are proud to say we are able to offer preventative screening bloodwork packages for all ages of pets. These preventative tests allow us to pre-screen for diseases and illnesses and come up with a treatment plan early!
We also recommend annual parasite screening for intestinal and blood parasites. Tick borne diseases are highly prevalent in our region and every effort is made to ensure your pets are protected with the most up to date preventative treatments.
Microchip for your pet
We can implant a small microchip quickly and painlessly under your pet’s skin to help identify him or her if lost. A number that matches your contact information is embedded in the chip and can be easily read with a hand-held scanner. This is important in cats as well as dogs, since most indoor cats do not wear identification and can easily sneak outside. Microchipping can also serve as a lifetime license for dogs.
